Exquisite hotels, world-renowned shopping, a rich food culture, and superb parks and museums: Singapore has it all. Enjoy economically priced hawker meals in Chinatown or dine in luxury.
Getting around
The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) covers all major areas and trains run every few minutes. Buy a Singapore Tourist Pass that provides unlimited travel for one to three days, or use the SimplyGo mobile app for tap-and-go access.
Taxis are prolific, but ride-hailing apps such as Grab or Gojek may be more affordable.
Travel from Changi Airport to the city centre by MRT for S$2.04, by taxi for S$25 or by bus for S$2.13.
Local tastes
The food scene is justifiably lauded, whether for everyday meals or Michelin-starred extravagance.
Satay by the bay: A popular hawker-food destination much-loved by Singaporeans and travellers alike. Feast on everything from signature satay dishes to chilli crabs, then stroll to Gardens by the Bay for the nightly lightshow.
Iggy's: Taking its name from restaurateur Ignatius Chan, this fine-dining Michelin-starred eatery offers a mix of Asian and European dishes. The tasting menus are regularly updated and seasonal.
Burnt Ends Bar & Grill: This Michelin-starred modern barbecue restaurant with an open kitchen will impress business colleagues. With bar stools and woodfired dishes, it is trendy but relaxed.
Where to stay
From pure luxury to traditional Singaporean style, there is a hotel for everyone.
Fullerton Bay Hotel: The Fullerton, looking over the Marina Bay waterfront, is a stunning heritage building. Swim laps in the 25m rooftop pool or recline in a glass-framed jacuzzi.
Andaz Singapore: Enjoy city views, an infinity pool, co-working spaces and upscale meeting rooms in a hotel that is just a short walk to food districts such as Little India and Kampong Glam.
Ann Siang House: A popular boutique hotel where the executive rooms have their own kitchenettes. For those who want to de-stress, it has a dedicated wellbeing suite.
Where to play
Make the most of a city known for its culture, shopping and history.
Marina Bay Sands: A hub for fun, this luxury hotel has shopping malls, fine dining and a SkyPark Observation Deck with city views. Do not miss the nightly light and water show.
Orchard Road: Well-known as a shopping haven, this precinct features outlets, department stores and upscale boutiques, plus the ION Art gallery, which showcases art, design and new media.
Sentosa Island: A former British military base, Sentosa is now home to Universal Studios Singapore, featuring rides, shows and attractions based on Hollywood movies. Check out its oceanarium and beaches, too.
